But, perhaps, the main changes did not take place in appearance, but in design. Let’s start with the fact that engineers increased the share of high-strength steels in the body from 21 to 51 percent, and at the same time, the number of hot-forged steels, the length and number of adhesive joints, and so on, also increased. The result was a 41% increase in torsional rigidity and a 30% increase in bending stiffness, making the car safer and likely to have a positive effect on handling.

But it’s impossible to improve handling with one body, so Hyundai engineers completely revised the Sonata’s chassis, including the characteristics of springs and shock absorbers, suspension geometry (the rear “multi-link” received new double lower arms that better distribute lateral forces and allow you to more accurately adjust the kinematics), steering column stiffness and much more, including an electric power steering processor that allows you to change the steering program.
